Had a good day at Escape the Cape! It was great to be racing again, almost two years after my last triathlon finish line. And TG5 got to get up on the overall podium twice! I swear he smiled a few times but we missed every one..
Not a perfect day, but I knew there'd be some rust. My swim could have been better, as usual, zig zaggy and I think I could have pushed harder. And I got to T1 to find a flat rear tire to deal with. After those mistakes, I went on to have the fastest overall bike and the fastest overall run.
All that considered, 2nd place was a good start to the comeback. My fitness is returning. And I have to work on exactly what I thought I had to work on: my swim (and tubeless maintenance 😅). It's all part of the race!
Similar story for Nikki, 2nd overall after her suit zipper broke and her chain dropped on the bike. And she lost by less than I did. #SecondPlaceIsTheFirstLoser runs in the family today!
And if I'm gonna lose, glad it was @colinlough_! He was absolutely flying out there, importantly- including the swim. And I'm just happy to see anyone in the 40+ AG still crushing it!
