Our Story

The oldest rookie pro I know..

My journey started over 10 years ago when I ran my first 5k to impress a girl (that one on the right). Mission still not accomplished, and you can hear more about that in my Ironman interview a here if the sympathy card will score any points.

Since then, hooked. A hockey player in my youth with big, unrealized dreams, I had found a sport to scratch my dormant competitive itch. Slowly over the years my goals grew. Local AG awards, overall wins, Ironman podiums, World Championship qualifiers, more?

None were easy. I missed Kona Qualifying for four years in a row by one slot (also in the IM interview). My coach, ex-pro Craig Paiement, allowed about a half a day to sulk each time before the planning began. But the best made plans…

That little guy on the top right came along just in time to join in for my last big push to Kona and my outside shot at a pro card. I was 100% ready to very happily throw in the towel. But my wife, also a competitive triathlete (who ran a BQ while pregnant), convinced me to throw one last hail mary instead.

Two very sleep deprived World Championships later, I earned the right to race as the oldest rookie Ironman pro I know. The support of my family, co-workers at Google, and the many endurance friends I’ve made along the way, from Ironman pros to ultramarathon champions, pushed me through every step.

Now hopefully you can be a part of the fun too!
